THE OLYMPIC FLAME IS NOT SACRED, HUMAN RIGHTS ARE

A denunciation of 80 Greek Journalists

During the lighting ceremony of the Olympic flame, the democratic authorities of Greece aligned themselves with China’s totalitarian regime. The police were impressively mobilised to hinder any protest about the state of freedoms in China and the continued bloody oppression in Tibet: they also insulted foreign and Greek citizens, including journalists.
Robert Menard, general secretary of the internationally known organisation “Reporters Without Borders” which has battled for human rights and freedom of information (not without success), is being put on trial.
At the same time the state-run TV channel “NET”, which is responsible for international coverage of the ceremony, censored the majority of the scenes of protest and the violent intervention of the police. Moreover, the government representative branded the acts of free and peaceful expression as “having nothing to do with spirit of the Olympics.”
What is actually in total opposition to the supposed 'Olympic spirit' is totalitarian China trampling human rights, the participation of the Greek authorities in this festival of hypocrisy and the Journalists’ Union (ESΙEA), which has not only failed to denounce the violence and the censorship but even failed to support their outraged and persecuted colleagues.
We condemn the actions of these collaborators and their accomplices (for bad journalism), as well as the country and the hypocrites that have covered it up, if only through their silence. We are in solidarity with our foreign, persecuted colleagues. We shall all be present at their trial.

"Watchdogs" or Pekineses?

The silence of the Greek Journalists’ union ESIEA undoubtedly has noble motives, as we see from their annual revolutionary 'tourist expeditions' to China (established over the last decade) by unionists who belong to “The Tiananmen Brigade”.
